Update....The Next Step

So after nearly 8 months away from blogging, I have been drawn back to my page and ready to see what future topics come to mind. If you've been keeping up with this and reading my previous posts I hope you have been challenged but also encouraged. I believe that I may revisit some of my older topics with a new perspective and insight. If you have any requests feel free to leave feedback or comments and in time I will endeavour to focus on it and publish a post. For now here's a small post on making the next step....

It's very easy for us to become complacent with where we are. It's comfortable, it's easy (most of the time), we know what we are doing day by day and as long as we are living by our own rules and regulations, we are content. But then after a while we begin to long for more. We cannot put our finger on it but just know that perhaps we should expand our mindsets. This is a recent occurrence with myself and as I explain my personal experience I hope you find encouragement.

This summer I was blessed to serve the persecuted church in North Africa and naturally on returning home the transition back into 'normality' was difficult. I had been on a similar trip the summer before and felt the same when I had returned home but this time was different. This time I was beginning to expand my mindset. "Is this all that I will be doing? Going away on mission, returning home and then working in a full time job, build up savings, work up the job ladder? Is this it?" Have you felt like this? We do not know what is around the corner and what happened to me took me completely by surprise.

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
- Ephesians 2:1-10 (NIV)

We are God's handiwork created in Christ to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do! There is more than the 9-5 job. There is more than just saving up for no reason apart from future financial comfort. I was focusing on the earthly desires of my heart and not prepared to step out into the heavenly perspective. (A subject I'll pick up on a later date) My heart changed and a doorway opened.....

I am now working one day a week in my old job, and now working voluntary at the International Bible Training Institute near where I live. Instead of putting boxes on shelves I run the music department and assist in general maintenance and practical needs. All this came about because my heart changed and got stirred up. My focus shifted and I was challenged with where I was. Believe me when I say that each day I am not content with where I am. I am stretched, challenged, encouraged as well as stripped of most of the things I was holding on to. Are you content with where you are? If so maybe your heart will be stirred up soon. Maybe there will still be some time to wait. I haven't realised this until now but through my everyday work in my old job, I was being prepared for a bigger step.....all I had to do was to be willing to take it.

However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”—the things God has prepared for those who love him—
1 Corinthians 2:9 (NIV)

The word of the year here is to be encouraged and so I hope you will be through this testimony. My challenge is this....are you complacent, content, in your comfort zone? If so you may be stretched and brought to a point where the next step is waiting.....are you willing to take it!?!
