Image....Who do you think you are?

Here's a personal one. I believe this applies to everybody and it's something that actually upsets me. How many of you look in the mirror and hate what you see? How many of you reject a compliment about you because you don't believe in what was said? How many of you compare yourself to others and wish you were more like them? Who do you think you are?

First Point: Self-Image

How often do walk past a mirror or reflective window and stop, take a look at yourself, check your hair and adjust your clothes before moving on? How long does it take you to get ready in the morning? How many of you (females) put on make-up because as you do not believe you're beautiful without it? Hard-hitting questions I know but I want to encourage you if the above apply to you.

Do not let your beauty come from the outside. It should not be the way you comb your hair or the wearing of gold or the wearing of fine clothes.Your beauty should come from the inside. It should come from the heart. This is the kind that lasts. Your beauty should be a gentle and quiet spirit. In God’s sight this is of great worth and no amount of money can buy it.
- 1 Peter 3:3-4 (NLV)

Quite often we believe that if we look good on the outside, we will be accepted. That this is what counts. If people see our exterior beauty, that's all that matters. This is not true. Let me first say that whoever you are, whatever you look like, you are beautiful just the way you are. True beauty come from the heart, through the way you act, the things you say. God sees the heart and that's a tough for me to even comprehend. Who do you think you are?

Second Point: Self-Worth

I struggle with this from time to time. Self-worth! Have you done something just so you would fit in with a particular crowd? Acted in a particular way, said some 'particular' words. We all can fall victim to this. "If I do what they're doing, maybe they will accept me!" "What if they don't like me?"
Without realising it we can put ourselves down and then wonder why we feel so sad, alone, depressed later on in the day. Has someone ever complimented you, "you have a great singing voice!"...."No, no, I can sing a bit but I'm not as good as them!" (This is just one example).

Let me encourage you: You are you. There is no-one else like you. You are your own person, made in a particular way to do particular things in your life. Take note of the particular giftings within you, accept them, then start to develop them. Do you believe in yourself?

God has given me His loving-favor. This helps me write these things to you. I ask each one of you not to think more of himself than he should think. Instead, think in the right way toward yourself by the faith God has given you. Our bodies are made up of many parts. None of these parts have the same use. There are many people who belong to Christ. And yet, we are one body which is Christ’s. We are all different but we depend on each other. We all have different gifts that God has given to us by His loving-favor. We are to use them. If someone has the gift of preaching the Good News, he should preach. He should use the faith God has given him. If someone has the gift of helping others, then he should help. If someone has the gift of teaching, he should teach. If someone has the gift of speaking words of comfort and help, he should speak. If someone has the gift of sharing what he has, he should give from a willing heart. If someone has the gift of leading other people, he should lead them. If someone has the gift of showing kindness to others, he should be happy as he does it.
Be sure your love is true love. Hate what is sinful. Hold on to whatever is good. 10 Love each other as Christian brothers. Show respect for each other. 11 Do not be lazy but always work hard. Work for the Lord with a heart full of love for Him.
- Romans 12:3-11 (NLV)

We all have different parts to play. So it's ok if you're not like someone else, because you are you. Instead of wishing you were like someone else, start believing in yourself, seeking more of that which is within you. What is it that makes your heart burn with passion? Do you love helping others, do you have heart for children, Who do you think you are? We all have different parts to play, it's just finding that specific thing that is unique to us.

Third Point: Self-love

So let me ask you this, do you love yourself for who you are? Do you believe you are capable of far more than you think of? Do you believe that you can make a difference? If not here's one last bit of encouragement.....God loves you!
You here it a lot, if God loves us then why does he let bad things happen. I shall go into this another day. But for now hold onto the fact that God loves you. He knows everything about you: God knows how many hairs you have on your head. Do not be afraid. You are worth more than many small birds. (Luke 12:7)
You are worth so much more than you can imagine. You are special, you are you. Do you believe in yourself, because God believes in you.

Take some time to read over Psalm 139 and really absorb what is written. I hope this is an encouragement to you.
