Expectations

We all have expectations or as such a strong belief that something is going to happen before it does. But then how disappointed do you become when what actually occurred did not live up to, or turned out completely different to your own expectation? I can say quite honestly that this has happened a lot to me. Now I'm not saying that it's bad to have expectations, all I'm saying is that what our pre-thoughts or assumptions may be to any given circumstance or situation, the result (most of the time) turns out to be completely different.

For example; how many of you have gone to see a film that you 'expected' would be good but walked out at the end feeling kind of let down? How many of us have gone to a football match 'expecting' our team to win but then walk out disappointed with a draw or even a loss? Most of the time we set such high expectations that whatever the outcome/ result is, does not live up to them.

'Live for the moment or the moment will never be seen'!

Sometimes our focus is so narrow and so tight that we cannot see the great possibilities beyond. We need to broaden our minds, our sight, our expectations and then instead of living in disappointment, we will be living in excitement, joy, amazement, hope etc. Like I said before, expectation is not a bad thing. It even works the opposite to which something works our better than you originally expected. This all leads back though to being so narrow-minded about the world we live in.
Now we see things imperfectly as in a cloudy mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely. - (1 Corinthians 13:12) (NLT)
It is so easy to look at everything at 'face-value'. Because often we hold so tightly onto our own expectations, we lose focus and we lose sight of the greater, the better, the bigger picture. God has great things for us, some of which do not match our own expectations of our life and what 'we' want from it, but in the long run will work out better than we could possibly imagine.
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. - (Isaiah 40:31) (NLT)
Having expectations is natural. We all make assumptions, expectations etc each and everyday. But here's a thought. How about not holding on so tightly to the belief that a certain situation is going to turn out a certain way! How about, for this week at least, we take each day as it comes and each situation/ circumstance as it arises. If our minds are open to any possibility, how then can we be disappointed with the result?
